The health and growth rate of a sourdough starter are dependent on 2 main variables : 🔺 Temperature 🔺 Feeding schedule To maintain a healthy starter that is always ready for baking, we often store our starters at room temperature and refresh on a daily basis. However, temperature can fluctuate throughout the year and fermentation activity can become unpredictable and challenging to manage. As a result we often need to adjust feeding ratios and frequency to accommodate these temperature swings. With the Sourdough Home, we can now keep our starters at a consistent temperature all through the year. The Sourdough Home is designed to heat or cool, in order to keep your starter at the perfect temperature. This means that our starters will enjoy a stable proofing temperature and thrive on a consistent feeding schedule. This in turn will encourage a happy microbial community of yeasts and bacteria that will enhance the flavor profile, aroma, and texture of our bread 🍞 The Sourdough Home is also great for beginners looking to build a starter from scratch. A stable proofing temperature (ideally 80-82F) is one of the key factors that contributes to the success of a new starter.
