For a deep cleaning, hand wash in hot water with mild dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Rinse it multiple times, because soap will get stuck in the tiny holes! Pat dry. Silicone baking mats have a solid silicone baking surface; mesh mats have perforations that leave a woven design on the backs of your cookies and can help with reducing spread. My mat is slightly too large. Can I cut the edges? No! Mesh mats are made from woven fiberglass that is then coated in silicone; cutting the silicone will compromise the integrity of the mat and possibly cause fiberglass contamination. Can I bake on the solid non-perforated edge of my mesh mat? You can, but the back of your cookie will not show the woven mat design in the spots baked on top of the solid silicone edging. How should I clean my mesh mats? Hand wash with gentle dish soap. Make sure to rinse the soap off well, so that it doesn't get stuck in the perforations and transfer to your baking cookies. Air dry, or place mat on a clean cookie sheet and allow to dry in the oven on low heat. I've seen mats like this in different colors. Does the color matter? No, the color of the mat does not matter, but the color/material of your pans does. Using light-colored baking pans will help keep your cookies from browning too much.
