This is one great very vintage stainless steel knife honer, or sharpener. A few quick swipes or passes along the finely striped, lightly serrated steel and your blade is ready for carving again! Not only will it enable you to keep your knives in sharp form, it will add some old-fashioned grandeur and elegance to your gathering. The steel part measures 7-7/8 inches and the wood handle measures just over 4-5/8 inches long, for a total length of a generous 12-5/8 inches. It is in wonderful mint condition - just one or two barely noticeable tiny bites in the wood near the steel. The handle of this sharpener is unique in that it is made of many laminated layers of wood, which looks to me like mahogany. Mahogany, of course, is prized not only for its durability, but also its rich auburn or red-brown colors. The photographs don't really do the wood layers full justice - but anyone who looks at this tool up close will appreciate the skills that went into fashioning this fine chef's "must-have" tool!

The amazing razor-sharp knives in this seven-piece set are created in Seki City, Japan's 700-year-old center for samurai swords. The rippled Damascus finish on each blade is achieved by forging 34 layers of stainless steel on each side. Corrosion-resistant blades are ground to an exceptional 16-degree angle, then polished by hand. Impregnated with resin for durability, the beautiful blonde birch wood handles won't harbor bacteria and are comfortable for left- or right-hand use.
